To streamline your kitchen activities, create specific work zones called "stations." Each station is designated for a particular task, ensuring that all necessary items are grouped together for easy access.

If you're unsure which stations you need, start with these essential zones. When it comes to kitchen organization, people often wonder what to do with a small kitchen. Contrary to popular belief, a larger kitchen does not equal a better kitchen. Unless you have a cooking staff or regularly make feasts for the Queen of England, a smaller kitchen is not only perfectly fine, but it’s often better. If you set it up right, you’ll be able to manoeuvre around quickly, multitask easily, and have so much less to clean (hooray!).

Here are the 4 essential zones for your Kitchen:

Prep Zone:

Purpose: This is where you prep all your ingredients prior to cooking.
Tip: Choose an area with the most countertop space and store the tools and ingredients you use most during prep at or near this station. These items can include a cutting board, a sharp knife, kitchen towels, a trash can, prep bowls, salt and pepper, and oils and vinegars.

Cook Zone:

Purpose: This is where you do all the cooking.
Tip: Put all cooking utensils and supplies within arm’s reach to make cooking very efficient. It’s easy to store items like tongs and wooden spoons in a drawer or utensil holder and keep supplies like cooking oil by the stove.

Clean-Up Zone:

Purpose: This is where your sink is and where all the cleaning gets done.
Tip: If you have a small kitchen, your clean-up zone is likely pretty close to your cooking zone. Remember, clean as you go for more efficient cooking and a tidy kitchen!

Put Away Zone:

Purpose: This is when dinner is done and it’s time to put things away in your fridge and/or freezer.
Tip: Keep items that will make leftovers easily go from the fire to the fridge next to this zone. These items can be Tupperware for packing foods, saran wrap, foil, a magnetic whiteboard and dry-erase markers to keep an inventory of what you put in your freezer.

By organizing your kitchen into these stations, you can significantly reduce the mental load of searching for items and enhance your overall cooking experience.

Kitchen Standard Counter Height

Typical Height: The standard height for kitchen countertops is 36 inches (91.44 cm), measured from the floor to the top of the countertop surface. But this height is not fixed it depends on the height of the user. As you can see on site it is made 900mm but it can range from 850-900mm.
Comfort and Accessibility: This height is chosen for its ergonomic comfort, allowing most adults to comfortably stand and work without straining their back or arms. It also facilitates easy access to items placed on the countertop and within standard base cabinets.
Standardization: Using a consistent counter height across the kitchen ensures compatibility with appliances, such as dishwashers and ovens, which are designed to fit seamlessly beneath or alongside countertops of this height. It also simplifies the installation and design process, as cabinets and countertops are manufactured to standard dimensions.
Adjustability: While 36 inches is the standard, kitchen counter heights can be adjusted to suit individual needs and preferences. For example, some homeowners may prefer slightly higher counters (around 38 inches) for added comfort, especially if they are taller. Conversely, lower counters (around 34 inches) may be installed to accommodate individuals with specific accessibility requirements.
Versatility: The standard counter height is versatile enough to accommodate various kitchen tasks, from food preparation to casual dining. It integrates well with kitchen design elements such as islands and breakfast bars, where different counter heights (typically higher for bar stools) may be used to create distinct functional zones within the kitchen space.

Key Points about Concrete Kitchen Islands

Durability: Strong and long-lasting, ideal for heavy use.
Customizability: This can be moulded into any shape, size, and colour, with various finishes and textures.
Aesthetic Appeal: Offers a contemporary, industrial look that can be a kitchen focal point.
Functionality: Provides extra counter space, and storage, and can integrate appliances like sinks and cooktops.
Maintenance: Requires regular sealing to prevent stains; minor cracks and patina add character over time.
Eco-Friendly: Made from natural materials, locally sourced, and highly durable, reducing waste.
Cost: Initial installation can be expensive due to labour intensity, but longevity makes it a worthwhile investment.
